This example features a convenience food company distributing frozen products and meals.

Trays come in into its warehouse from several factories and go out to retailers and restaurant chains. 

Knowing what has arrived is essential to maximising delivery performance. 

Requirement

• Monitor goods in and goods out in real time.
• Achieve full traceability from despatch back to source.
• Operate with a legacy IT system and upgrade to a new one.

Solution - stage 1

When goods arrive at the warehouse staff use Dolphin hand held RF terminals to scan the barcode on each tray.

Codeway's RealTime 2 software looked up the product details and added adds a record to the stock available database. This allowed the company to continue with existing order picking procedures.

Whem trays are ready in the vehicle loading area, dispatchers “log on”. They enter destination code, vehicle, and shift number, and then scan the barcodes on the trays to check that all are accounted for.

A display screen shows up-to-the-second status of each order. Performance reports are also available at the touch of a button.  

Solution - stage 2

RealTime 2 was an interim solution until the company moved to AS400 terminal emulation.

Codeway installed terminal emulation software on the Dolphins RF terminals to give faster direct access to the database.
