Tracking and tracing of goods through the network is a critical part day to day operations for:
- Accurate receipting of goods
- Correct picking of items from stock
- Stock checking for customers
- Collection scanning and Engineer returns
The need to upgrade
Prior to the introduction of the new solution, Rico had a fleet of legacy hand held terminals reaching their end of life.
Repair costs were increasing and downtime levels were becoming unacceptable.
Rico Logistics contacted Codeway and asked them to undertake a comprehensive review of the entire wireless estate, including the hand held terminals.
In conjunction with Datalogic Mobile, Codeway developed a solution to work with Rico's bespoke TRACE warehouse management system.
This solution would greatly increase efficiencies, minimise downtime and rectify ‘signal dropout' problems in all of Rico's facilities.
Key components were Datalogic Skorpio Gun™ supported by Datalogic Mobile's comprehensive ease of care service, and Codeway’s RF site surveys at the six main locations.
After installation, Rico enjoyed many immediate benefits, including significant cost savings in repair costs.
The Ease of Care next day replacement service resulted in a dramatic reduction in device downtime.
Users preferred the guns to the previous hand held models and the elimination of ‘signal dropout' raised productivity. Furthermore,
Rico's customers benefit too, with more accurate, on demand, stock checks.
Jon Mannering, IT director at Rico Logistics, comments, "The Datalogic Mobile/Codeway solution has led to a dramatic improvement in both the efficiency and effectiveness of our scanning processes”
“This has resulted in enhanced timeliness and quality across the warehouse operation, as well as actually reducing costs. It's been a true win-win project for us."
With ever growing business, Rico Logistics plans to expanding their current locations, contract more customers, and increase the volume of traffic through the network.
"With this in mind it is inevitable that we will have a need to increase our hardware with the current solution from Datalogic and Codeway" says Steve Skillicorn Project Manager at Rico Logistics.
